I don't know about the japanese model of the charger but the US one is 100% only 120v. and when they make them that way it says 100-240v on them. They make switching power supplies that work with 100-240V automatically (no switch for voltage) I have had to mess around with this stuff a few times in my lifetime and every single time the converter burned out. It's definitely not worth it to mess around with getting a voltage converter. This is a FAR, FAR better and safer option, and no clunky converter box to deal with. You can get a new dual battery makita fast charger separately for $55 on amazon. But it's not just a small plug converter, it's gonna be it's own clunky looking "box" that you need to plug into. Quick search on amazon shows that you can get a 500w one for ~$50, but you want to have some headroom so I'd get a bigger one than that like this 1000w one for $77. In that case you will need a voltage converter which can get expensive fast depending on watt output needs. My USA makita charger says 120v only (480w draw), so I suspect the japanese one will be 100v only. Some things will work ok with either, but it has to be made for it.
